The Department of Culture and Psychology - Leading the Way.

In April 2003, The Department of Culture and Psychology, Faculty of Human Studies was established, and it is the only department of its kind in Japan. In the department, students are favored with many opportunities to further their understanding of different cultures and a variety of problems relating to the mental health of humankind. In this field of academic study, our college is recognized as a leader in the 21st century.

The Approach of the Department of Culture and Psychology.

Japan is faced with problems such as bullying, truancy, child abuse, and others relating to child-rearing.A scientific approach to psychology is necessary to clarify the impact these problems are having on the way the mind functions. In addition, it is also necessary to understand the influence of culture on the mind. Today, we are faced with global problems caused by differences in cultures. The approach of The Department of Culture and Psychology is to look at solutions to these problems by taking into account both culture and psychology. Our concept is to investigate the interaction between the mind and culture, and cultivate in people an ability to live in peace with others.

Working Together.

Students and teachers strive towards building a warm learning environment in which they know each other by name and work closely together. This is possible because the education at Seisen is based on a respect for each individual student. In addition to developing the students' critical thinking, Seisen Jogakuin College helps students improve their language and Information Technology skills. Our mission is to disseminate the results of our academic program, a program that involves the learning of skills predicated on the importance of caring human relationships.

Putting roots down and growing with the community

Many people's mental health is adversely affected by the weakening of communication within local communities and the structural changes of modern families. Attention is being drawn to the relevance between these problems and local culture. There is now a great need for specialists with global insight who can work closely with these local communities. In cooperation with the students, SJC will help students become independent as such a specialist.

What is the Department of Culture and Psychology?

The Faculty of Human Studies is a faculty which examines what it is to be human. You will examine how human beings live together in modern times, develop an understanding of various customs and cultural practices held by different people, and reflect deeply about your own beliefs. The Department of Culture and Psychology is the practical study of serving various people and fostering a sense of togetherness while learning about the mechanisms of psychology.
